... the wild coastline and the brown sea. In Livorno we settled back into our campsite and waited for the weather to clear. By late afternoon we were able to venture out on the bikes to assess the damage to the coastline here. There was lots of debris washed up on the shore,.. very different beaches to those of a few days ago. Thursday saw a late start,.. clear blue skies,.. and bloody hot,.. again! A bike ride and a quiet lunch at one of the many seaside ...

The title says it all! Today we cycled from Valloire to Briancon over the Col du Galibier (2646m). The weather was against us pretty much all day, as we woke to pouring rain forcing us to drag everything inside and practically take over the sites shower block! Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

... to go up the hill a bit to watch them struggle a bit, and to see what we would be like the following day. We saw them and before you knew it, the break away group had come and gone. Then a couple of minutes later the pack was there and then they were gone too. There were a few riders between the breakaway and the pack, but it would have been really horrible for these guys. For before the breakaway, you get lots of cars ...

... out to be an interesting blend of spices and raw beef! But the chips were good! Cokes consumed here: 1 each From there the real test began. We had a climb of about 1250m now to the top of Col du Galibier. This one was a struggle, my poor body wasn't coping too well with all this climbing and the old knees started to creak and the ITB once again began to show its age. But with lots more frequent stretching we managed to slowly crawl up the side of this mountain. There ...
