    Technically we should be in Guillestre this evening, but the nearest accommodation we could book is just up the road from there, in a small village called Risoul.     We've looked back on some trips we've done in the past and thought it would've been nice to spend more than a single evening in one place, so for this trip we planned a day off.

    Paul Henderson in his 'Cycling the French Alps' book recommends Briançon as a good place to spend a day off the bike, so we took his advice.

    ... been more apt). Interesting fact of the day is it takes about 6 minutes to soft boil an egg in Aussois because the water boils at a lower temperature at altitude.

    Because the proprietor skis in winter and so cycles in summer to keep fit, he had a track pump! I got very excited about being able to get the tyres to 100psi (7 bar) for the first time on our tour - they were only inflated to about 60psi - how much faster we could have gone uphill!
