Our trip to Milano got a late start--not our fault. The high speed train, Frecciarossa, was delayed over an hour due to some political rumblings/rallies in Bologna.

We made it just on time to our lunch visit with Vera, our very first teacher of Italian, ...

Wow! We are impressed by the grandeur of the buidings, and the streetscapes, and the Duomo. And to cap it all off the coffees are €1.40 not 3.60 as in Paris. We also lucked in with a happy online choice of hotel with great breakfast and large comfortable room. Walked into town to the Piazza Duomo, saw the last of the Christmas markets, and queued for tickets to the elevator to the top of the Cathedral. This is well worth doing ...

        ... at* Tetris.

Feeling a little peckish, we looked up where an eatin' place that our in-flight magazine of our earlier flight had recommended, then caught the Metro there. Rising up the escalator to the street level we found ourselves in what appeared to be the Detroit (or Corio - for those playing at home) of Milan. We were surrounded by high density housing, graffiti, youths, riff raff, old men, fences, and even people smoking cigarettes. Not phasing us we continued on to ...
