    Day 10 - Across the Bay of Poets

    We are up early today to get some breakfast supplies. The owner of the little shop arrives at 8:05am with his car full of bread and other goodies from goodness knows where, and we stock up for our immediate requirements.

    After a bountiful breakfast, we descend to the local bus stop and await the "S", which will take us back down the hill to Lerici, where we will take the ferry ...

    ... a sparkling day and they looked a treat from the water. I saw the clock tower which was right up against the room I had all those years ago. We also saw about 500 American tourists in large groups cramming the little streets - absolutely awful. Anyway, some photos to show the good ...

    ... each ordered something different.
    We had bruscetta with purple onions, tomatoes, local sausage and potatoes. To see the potatoes on the bread was a little different but surprisingly I liked it.
    Johan was still sick and he ordered minestrone, which was mainly a broth with white beans. Joerg had flash fried sardines, I had local sausage and potatoes and the best dish of the evening was Nelia’s foccacia with cheese.

    The forecast was good, so on our land lady's recommendation we took the ferry do we south to Portavenere. It was an amazing trip, looking at the little villages and homes clinging to the steep hills falling away tot he sea. It was not uncommon to see houses either side of a massive rockslide. I am not sure how the sleep soundly at night, but they seem to have been there for a while. ...

    ... up to the room. It has the most outstanding views looking back across the water. The owner offered to take us back when we were ready.
