... not far from the train station that went up to Pila ski fields. When we got off the train it was easy to find, so we joined the line of people carrying skis, sleds and dressed in snow gear, not many people wearing jeans like us! Got our tickets which was only €12.00 (I had read €60.00) and hopped into a cable car that went for miles,it took 20 minutes to get up the mountain, the ride was fun on its own. Bonatti was one of the better refuges, and even though we slept in a dorm it was an enjoyable place to stay. The etiquette at the refuges is that you remove your hiking boots near the entry -- there's usually some kind of "mud room" or tiny place to store your boots in a cubbyhole. You walk around the place in sandals until it's time to leave.

... out some clothes and hung them out on a clothesline in a super windy spot overlooking a glacier.

Dinner was a terrific risotto dish and pork in a cream sauce. Finally no cheese (were not in France anymore!). We sat across from an older British woman who was walking the whole hike by herself!

We had private room for oursleves which was a treat and we slept like the dead.
