Today we left the wonderful Refugio Bonatti. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed! We had a short day planned and wanted to be sure we didn't miss too much from the trail the day before after taking the bus. After a slow start to our day, we back tracked a few hours and enjoyed a hole without our packs! Not surprisingly, we found more wild flowers and mountains to capture in photos! ... but the so-called "facilities" were awful....Old, tired, dilapidated and ferkin ugly!
And, it was still stinking hot - like 40+! and no breeze, and the air thick with mozzies that you could cull with a sword....no pool, ugly showers....

So, we cheated today.... Not a little bit either. We only hiked an hour. But, a really hot hour. Glad we took the bus (we kept moving which stop we'd get off and ended up as far as we could. As expected, the remainder of our hike was a steep climb from the river to well above the tree line. It was ...

... then some slow cooked beef or veal, with peas, and polenta, then some strawberry tart. Each place we have stayed at has beer, wine, soft drinks, so Johnny always has a couple of beers to ease away the days aches. We have a little issue with Rene, everyday he has worn the same clothes, a brown t shirt, and some cargo shorts. They are both saturated even by lunchtime. By the time we arrive at our destination he is dripping in perspiration. ...

... Renee is the slowest of our group, but is steady and always arrives at our rest spots soaked with perspiration but smiling. Today we learned that he is 72, so he's doing an outstanding job. We are on the top floor/ attic room with 12 mattresses running beside each other in a single line, reminiscent of New Zealand and Tasmania. The showers tonight weren't hot, but not cold either. John had a completely cold one as he didn't listen to the instructions. Very refreshing. We are ...
