Like all good things, this mini-break had to come to an end and for us, the last blow out was a leisurely lunch at La Florida, a lovely restaurant which had passed from Father to son who had jazzed it up a little to make it a more modern place.
The interior is white and bright and after a little table rearranging we were all sat down for a feast.

The final day in Gers tinged with sadness but somehow we all felt like we had been there for quite a while - I guess fitting in so much in such a short time has it's advantages. We ate our final breakfast and said goodbye to our Auberge.
Fun was had trying to pack the selection of wines, Armagnac, prunes and preserves into my case - it was akin to Tetris apart form when you filled a complete row it didn't disappear. There was a point when ...
... of local diners was casting glances at these mad folks in the corner who had more bottles on the table than cutlery! What they must have thought.
And to finish off the meal we had the same selection of Daroze Armagnac as we had for the initial tasting on the first night! Ii managed to taste two before I had to admit it was time to go to bed!
What a great way to close out our last evening in Gers with fine food, wine, Armagnac and the best of company!

"Nuts nuts nuts" was Florence's introduction to this vintage and she wasn't wrong. Hazelnut and walnut on the nose. Warm and velvety smooth on the palate with orange peel and finishing with more nuttiness. Floriane said that this was a true expression of the Ténarèze style.

... was film and flavoursome with the earthy chestnut and creamy sauce also delicious. Not usually one for deserts, I was delighted with my floating island on is creamy sea - managed to get a photo just before my Kumquat fell off! All of these dishes were beautifully infused with hits of black truffle with skill and finesse preventing them being over dominated. A memorable meal.
