... was feeding the convicted criminals and prisoners of war to the beasts. Quite a barbaric form of entertainment and not one that was greatly appreciated amongst the spectators hence the reason for leaving the arena. After the lunch break it was time for the Gladiators to make an appearance, however it was not quite as gruesome as legend may have it. It was very rare that gladiators were actually killed in the arena and certainly not ...

What a glorious day to wake up to. The sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky and not a puff of wind, today is going to be awesome. We headed to Remoulins just north of Nimes to have a look at even grander Aqueduct than that at Castries and it didn't disappoint. Pont Du Gard. Today we visited Goudargues, 45 minutes from Geoff's commune of ...

... end. Well 4 1/4 tonnes does not work well on grass, so we did the filling and emptying thing - wearing waterproofs which aren't in rain that heavy, and moved on. Bagnols sur Ceze isn't the prettiest town I've ever visited, but it provided a good secure and level park for the night. Plenty of shops and the rain did eventually stop in the early evening. But it was a noisy aire. You don't want pictures of rain - do ...

... to bull fighting I would go and have a look. Whilst I have no real desire to watch an animal suffer I decided that before I could comment on the 'sport' so loved by the Spanish and indeed those from the south of France, I needed to watch it to try and understand why it seems to be very popular and at least then my opinion would be an informed one. Also as the event is staged in the Roman arena, this would be the nearest I could come to experiencing what an event would have been like ...
