... was outrageous, sooooo many trucks and of course everything travelling very quickly. It was most tiring for John as the driver. The closer we got to Milan the worse it got, anyway, we survived. Luckily the road basically bypasses Milan and we were soon in Como.
Well a shock we got! The lake is pretty but Como is a huge suburb of Milan really. In fact most of the lake has housing surrounding it, albeit rather flash housing :-). Arrived at ...

Leaving Milano, we started the day with Bergamo which is an ancient town about 40 km east of Milan we've been hearing a lot about. I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just me setting my expectation too high.

The guide at the church today says it's been their worst summer in more than 20 years so I am very lucky as rain makes everything harder and less enjoyable. Thunder forecasted for here again tomorrow but I'm leaving the city for my last day and the forecast there is good so fingers ...

      Left to my own devices...

... Duomo! When I figured out you could climb right up I thought -why not? Already had two embarrassing moments though; one in which I lined up to get into the church instead of the stairway and got rejected at the door because my skirt was too short!! I didn't bother arguing that they are in fact culottes- not a skirt and actually a rather decent length. My second moment happened 10 seconds later ...
