      ... and the immaculate conception! After a lovely outdoor lunch we drove almost two hours to our hotel for tonight - Porto Otilio - down a steep windy road to the coast. I have a lovely room - with very bad wifi reception - with an ocean view. I went swimming in the Ionian Sea area of the Mediteranean as well as in the lovely hotel pool. A lot of us would like to stay in this quiet beautiful spot - but we have the Diros Caves and Kardamyli to see - and will sleep in Olympia tomorrow ...

      ... held more temples, agoras, bathhouses but above all an amazing auditorium. The outdoor theater sits atop our sights list so far. Holding several thousand people in 40-odd levels it was stunningly intact. The building allows people in the top level to hear coins dropping on the stage, perfectly. After lunch, of again gyros, the rain once again set in, heavily. This time it stayed. So it meant off to a seaside campground for some washing, skyping and rainy walks along the beach. Not so ...

      ... historical rubbish was all starting to feel the same to me, luckily Olympia was a little different in that it was my first Ancient World Wonder site. Unfortunately the Statue of Zeus at Olympia no longer stands, but the triangular shaped pediment from the temple, and its relief sculptures preserved in the museum were relatively intact and quite amazing to see complete with their tales of ancient times.
