We could hear everything that was happening in the rooms around us, which meant that I spent a lot of time out of the room.

The management and staff were really nice. I was able to wash my clothing and given a clothes airer to dry it on. They also made some great suggestions about places to see and food to eat. Wouldn't stay here again though.

Even in nearby Hastings, McDonalds is housed in an Art Deco style building. We had a pre- …

... is a wonderful blue. It's easy to run out of superlatives when writing about New Zealand. We scamper around the town photographing any building we pass that we like the look of. We then go to the Art Deco shop and with super-human restraint, I buy only one very small thing as a present for someone else. My original intention was to ask them to ship the whole shop home for us. We then buy ice-creams and sit and look at the sea for five ...

... consumed tonight and Nick decided to let off some fireworks at about 10pm in the garden (no idea why he had fireworks in his car). We went to bed about midnight (including the kids who were still running riot in the house) and we slept in our camper outside their house. Our first night not on a campsite which felt a bit weird just sleeping on the road but was comfy as usual and meant we saved some money too by not having to pay for a ...
