... so the day we were there also happened to be Liberation Day which was celebrated with services around the city and a fly over by military planes. Unfortunately on May 8th 1945 Prague was liberated by the Russians, and this led to them being under communist rule from then until 1990. ... buildings were all demolished and new ones rebuilt as part of an urban renewal project at the start of the 20th century. The area was designed to look like the streets of Paris and is now one of the most expensive parts of Prague to live in. Every street in Praha 1 (old district) has beautiful old buildings full of character. We were happy just to loose ourselves in the cobblestone streets and explore.

Day trip to Kutna Hora Today we decided to use our rail pass and took a trip to the town of Kutna Hora, just 70 miles from Prague. We set off and caught the 10.oo train which took about 1 hour.
