So we awoke early again - still a little jet lagged but feeling soo much better.
i wandered off to the loo block and listened to the wildlife chirping away - soo chilled and noone was up yet so lovely. Back to the van and made tea from the BBQ area - they had a hot water tank (a big plus for camping next to the site) ...
Port Macquarie was gearing up for the Iron Man event which has 1800 competitors, the whole town was filled with Lycra and fancy bikes - one young waitress even asked if we were competing - we looked for her guide dog but couldn't see one.
We bumped into a lady I met years ago when the boys we small while having coffee and they kindly invited us to their new home for dinner. They have retired near Port and have only been here ...
... toasties, perfect.
Up early and out for breakfast at OP81, lovely poached egg, bacon, hollandaise, toasted rye bread and a cup of tea. Perfect start to the day. Walked along the beach at Coffs Harbour and climbed to the top of Bonville Headland. Lovely view from the top of the bays at either side. Stopped off to check out the natural swimming pool........little bit cold for a dip!! Walked back to the motel, picked up the car ...
... we were shattered and it was kind of like being at a house party when you are 17 . . . . but sober and nearly 30 . .. not as much fun, lol! Later in the eve we headed out to get food after a walk around the lovely harbour at night. It was kind of tricky cooking as the kitchen had like 2 pans and 2 chopping boards for like 30+ backpackers. We found it slightly amusing and finally managed to eat!
... the distance signs to Brisbane has been building it up massively for me! I take particular note of James's tip to go and say hi to people at rest areas - he's been given freshly caught fish and shown local attractions he'd otherwise have missed. I hope I can get in on this act on my travels! I get to bed at 10.30, slightly wobbly after sampling a couple more of Australia's beer selection!
