    Woke up nice and late with a little bit of a sleep. Went down to the pool to take photos of the turtles in the water. This morning there were 4 below the balcony and another 3 out in front of the pool.     ... gardens, which were visited for dinner parties and other events by celebrities, politicians and other famed characters of the time. There was one gardener who was hired as a teenager while the garden was being developed. He had a gift for the artistry of landscaping the gardens and Robert took him under his wing. He was named head gardener as a very young man in the 1940's and stayed head gardener until his death in the mid-2000's.

    ... turns out it was a sea cucumber. After Sheila stepped on it, It rolled up into a ball with some needles sticking out. Eventually it was released back into the surf.

    Also on the reserve was an area where they raised tortoises. They had 17 mature tortoises and 5 babies. They are remarkably social animals. They would crawl right up to you. We were able to touch and feed them.

    We left the reserve and headed to Hanapepe to see the swinging bridge. ...
