There was one gardener who was hired as a teenager while the garden was being developed. He had a gift for the artistry of landscaping the gardens and Robert took him under his wing. He was named head gardener as a very young man in the 1940's and stayed head gardener until his death in the mid-2000's.

Last day on this island. We went for walk down the other side of the island today, and saw in the water turtles and then a monkey seal. By the afternoon it was overcast again so had another lazy day around the pool, on the balcony, and getting our washing up to date. We had room service tonight as early flight tomorrow to Waikiki. Not many photos today as its all pretty much the same ...
... cream on her back (usually end up with burnt bits). The aloe cooling dry oil spray is fab and the smell is divine. Much nicer that the **** available in the UK. I sat under a tree on the beach for a while, taking in the beauty of this place, even when it's overcast, and went for a walk along the waterline before braving "the black hole."

Larry and Derek ventured further down the trail to see the top of the upper falls. It was too much rock climbing for me.
