The people used old newspaper articles to insulate the cabins. One of which printed quotes from Theodore Roosevelt stating the Homesteaders' responsibility to protect themselves as they were in "Enemy territory." ...

... br> Hike 7- Blue lakes (again w snow shoes) 6.3 miles, hiking time of almost 7 hours
Well, went back to do the blue lakes with my snow shoes. It was totally worth the effort. Incredibly gorgeous glacier lakes, amazing panorama around them and not a soul up there due to the massive avalanche and snow drifts on the trails. The snow shoes were a necessity. Great hike!

Telluride was awesome. Didn't have a lot of new snow, and it felt like spring skiing in January, but the terrain was stellar. I forgot how much work teleskiing on groomers is...and so I am hoping that this big storm will drop a couple of feet so I can get my powder day here on the western slope.
