... in Cordoba and met our host family here. It is a very free place. The kids have piercings and the church doesn't seem to be judgemental. We see a LOT of potnetial here for the future! Today, after church, we were able to go to the town center of Cordoba with some of the youth. One of which we know for sure is a satanist, and the others aren't too "fond" of God. We were hoping to be a light to them ...
Cordoba, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico millieradosti... and green. Rob and I stuck our hands in the pain and started leaving different colored hand prints on the wall as - kind of like seals, claiming the land for Jesus. We also started writing "This land belongs to Jesus" in English, Spanish and two other languages that I dont know by looking at them. I remember seeing in my plane view a yellow handprint with a red one to the left of ...
Cordoba, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico millieradostiI went to Orizaba, cause I thought I would be able to see the Mexico´s highest mountain - Pico de Orizaba. However, it is not possible to see it from the city. So don´t make the same mistake, but once you´re in the city, you can visit the museum, it is really very good, including some Diego Rivera´s paintings.
Orizaba, Mexico jackyna... which was celebrating the 2nd to last day of carnaval. The day before, a dozen people got trampled by bulls so, how could it not be a good time. When we got to Veracruz we were completely bummed to find out that we just missed the parade along the waterfront. But, we continued on down the waterfront looking for a good place to land. It was phenomenal how many people were walking down the beach front, stopping at make shift ...
Orizaba, Mexico peterhall... and kicked his ass! Now there was still a lot left in it and the two lads were a bit wobbly, but we later heard that 5 Irish girls had downed the whole lot in about 2 minutes only a few weeks ago! From there we went into the museum and saw bits and pieces from the company's history including the largest bottle of Tequila in the world...45 litres! We also about another 10 shots of the local brews in the meantime..it wasn't even 1 ...
Tequila, Mexico jamesmc... Another interesting thing is that here "La flauta" is the recorder. The instrument that we think of as the flute is called "la flauta dulce".) After the children played "Ode to Joy" Daniel asked me to play something on the keyboard for the kids. I played "Far From Home", the song that Oyvind wrote when he was living with us, mostly because it's the only song I know from memory! The kids also had a chance to ask me some questions in English (so ...
Cholula, Mexico spunkymuzicnote... see below for further detail on that topic*). When I finally managed to get them under control, I didn't bother with having them sing the whole song each time it was a child's turn to improvise (the second group did get to do that). The improvisation was supposed to be during the 3rd phrase of the song, and then everyone was supposed to echo it on the 4th. After a lot of coaxing I was able to get each child to make up a simple body percussion sequence to the beat ...
Cholula, Mexico spunkymuzicnoteLeah, Megan and I went to visit a Talavera pottery shop today. It's right across the street from the university. One of the ladies who works there took us into the back to show us how Talavera is made. I've attached photos of the process. I recommend viewing them as a slideshow. Also, for more info on what Talavera is: http://www.inside-mexico.com/art1.htm
Cholula, Mexico spunkymuzicnote... Que problemas! About halfway through playing the game I caught several of them holding on to the "flower" instead of passing. At first I tried to solve the problem while the game was still going on (staring at them, arching an eyebrow, etc.). That worked the first few times but after a few minutes that didn't seem to phase them. Particularly el chico on my left who actually threw the "flower" to me right before the song ended so when the person guessed that ...
Cholula, Mexico spunkymuzicnote... the San Cosme station (metro station which is 15 mins walking from where I live). I wanted to go to the Instituto Migracion Nacional...but I think I would return late from it and I don´t like walking around on my own when it is late. Will leave to that place tomorrow...early...probably ;) After that head for work...will call Enrigue about it and see if he goes as well. I hope I will be done fast with the whole thing. But anyhow...that is all for tomorrow....hasta luego!
