... quite a while in the cathedral....just amazing. It's hard to fathom just how old it is and how it was built. To think we climbed the same stairs that Thomas Becket once climbed. It's a huge place with enormously high ceilings. Then a short drive to board the ferry for the trip across the channel to France. We've lost an hour so it's become very late very quick.....but doesn't feel like it, still light at ...
... worth waiting for. Delicious! Overall we think we made a mistake by coming up north so soon and should maybe have headed to Bordeaux or the Vendee for a while. It seems like we are just treading water now waiting for the ferry home! Nice and relaxing though, and we are both happy camping in this type of climate. ... about 19.30 - fortunately they had room, although it was a close-run thing as out of 198 pitches they only had 4 spare. Even more fortunately the diesel held out and we arrived with 9 miles showing….. we hadn’t passed a garage at all, at least not one accessible from the autoroute. We checked in and settled ourselves on a large pitch at the rear of the site, then walked down to the restaurant for our evening ...

Licques, Pommiers des Trois Pays (N50 46’ 47” E1 56’ 52”), an ACSI site, 14Euro per night.
A very neat little place, on the edge of the village of Licques, which has a small supermarket etc.
We are quite away from the coast but still near Calais, so, a reasonable option either just before catching the ferry, or, just after getting off ...

The weather has not improved this morning, still the same howling gale and bursts of pouring rain.
After I get soaked to skin, in one such downpour, returning from a trip to the loo, Kathleen decides that, although this is HWD she is not going to risk a soaking, so, it is officially postponed.
