So rushing it a bit I left the house and went 2 days to Les Saintes, 2 cute small islands south Guadeloupe. Sleeping in expensive bed and breakfast wasn't an option so I put my hammock wherever I could hide because free camping is not allowed (yeah it's free so...). I slept in the cliff of the south of the island the first night, facing the sea, sharing the place with wild goats. It was free and probably the best thing you can do, just me and the nature, by the sea, swinging ...

... feeling like being on holidays when work is over, sweet no? They know they are lucky, they know this is only for a year or two so they take the max out of it. A mix between moving their **** to do what's to be done there, probably partying a bit more than what they would do while working back in France (yeah, hard not to constantly feel on holidays with this kind of weather and landscape) but still working hard. ... day I arrived, haha! A sign? Luck again?
Arriving in Guadeloupe I quickly went to an internet café to check if Damien had replied me and if he could help me out there. I rushed back to the ferry terminal and guess what, I got one of the last 3 tickets ...

... enabled us to use the wind and get past the outcropping of rocks. Of course I had front seat views looking out for reefs on the bow of the boat!

Sailing past Dominica we kept a couple of miles off the coast and tried to keep that distance. In the dark distances become very difficult to gauge, so you navigate by features of land and your mapping. It was surprising how few lights were on the island, but there ...

      Guadeloupe

... This effectively stranded us on the island with not much to do except walk through the quite coastal town and walk up to the botanical gardens to peer through the fence as they were greedy with their pricing. Time on the boat, easy with no sailing and a perfect nights sleep.

We did make it to the rain forest in the middle of the island in the end and getting there was half the adventure. Waiting at the bus ...
