... only be 20 miles, so early start, early finish and lots of food and drink please. + Day 26. Sunday 7th September. Big Sheep Creek to Lima. Another freezing start to the day with plenty of ice on the tent and bikes. Whilst our wild camp spot was possibly the most beautiful of the whole trip, the problem with camping in a canyon (or gorge - not sure of the difference) is that it gets no morning sun. ... with an amazing waterfall at the climactic point of the hike. The hike was not especially challenging, but we all felt the elevation (especially Maeve who did not seem especially excited to be hiking) by the end of the 3 mile hike.

Next we drove up the mountain to explore the Big Sky Resort. It was very nice (especially the "Summit" lodge). We had some especially tasty barbecue and then headed up in a super long chair ...

Kids and I spent the morning skiing at Moonlight getting faster and better skills before heading over to the other ski area of Big Sky. We tried out a couple of new, longer slopes and some old ones and had a great time. Mase and I both had burning thigh muscles by the end of some of the slopes but it sure kept us warm. Sometimes the ski down can be so quick that you don't have time to warm up before the painfully cold, often windy and snowy chair ...

... we had an hour long vicious game of cribbage where the 9 of hearts came up 4 out of 5 hands; statistically unbelievable. That pretty much wraps up another great day!! Ut!! Before I finished typing this, the local camp patrol guy came by and collected my $14. Apparently he has spies at the grounds here. Interesting guy, told me there a few bears near our site here. If I write a blog tomorrow, we weren't dinner. I figure the little dog in the other tent is a better bear meal than ...

... of shopping and peace and quiet. Not five minutes after she left, the kids got stuck again, Uncle Pete and Tim jumped off to go and help them, and when we caught up to them, they were cold, shivering and worried. It turned out that the effort and paddling that went into going around the second bridge support and being separated from Dad and Uncle had resulted in a bit of stress and anxiety so we stayed out and let them warm up.
