    ... the first chicken buses we took in Central that were literally carrying cages of chickens! In hindsight it wasn't as uncomfortable as we expected- the constant need to change buses meant we weren't cramped in a seat for too long.     We got of the bus to explore Panama Viejo which has the archaeological remains of the City of Panama built in 1589. This city was destroyed by pirates in 1671 and then rebuilt two years later in the present Old Town, Casco Viejo. It's now been declared a World Heritage Site but there is not much left to see apart from the foundations of a few buildings ...
