    ... 8-10 minutes to complete the operation in which time our ship was raised 27 feet to equalise it with the water level on the other side of the lock. While we waited for this, the guide took our picture which could be transferred to an official Panama Canal Transit certificate that you can purchase at the end of the tour for the paltry amount of $10. How could I say no? I managed to get mine taken ax the lock doors were closing behind us.

    ... So I left Panama City and travelled to the other side of Panama, the carribean side. The trip took an hour and a half.. its a thin country.

    ... we continued our walk to Casco Viejo. The rain had almost let up by then. We walked around Casco Viejo on the hunt for souvenirs and to see more of the old Panama. It's always a huge gamble leaving the souvenir shopping to the last day...especially a Sunday...when most store are closed.     ... and flew right past downtown Panama City. As soon as we landed, we cleared customs in 20 minutes, and caught a cab to our hotel. Beware, the cab prices to Panama City to the airport are fixed and you end up paying a lot more going to the city than you do returning to the airport. We ended up paying $50 to get to the city and $25 returning to the airport.
