We decided to hire a car for a week and I must say it's been lovely to have the freedom to go when we want rather than sticking to bus itineraries. We hired a 4x4 which is a necessity for the many unpaved roads.

The drive from San Jose to Monteverde took 3 hours and we stopped for lunch at a Soda on the way. We aren't sure what a Soda actually means but its like a small hut with a few seats serving typical local dishes, think very fresh ingredients with lots of seafood on ...
