... which once again was in English with lots of old photographs some actual exhibits and lots of stories about the main prisoners. We were very pleasantly surprised by how good the museum was and really would have preferred more time to do it justice. After leaving there and having lunch it was time to get ready to board the boat to set sail for the Antarctic. We had a few welcome meetings and briefings followed by a late meal and then were able to settle down to sleep for the night.
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina mikeandmary... B&B was that the owner (John) served drinks and snacks for his guests every night around 7pm. So both nights we were there we sat around for a couple of hours and talked with the other guests. It was tons of fun to meet these other people. There was a couple from the UK there both nights and two friends from Colorado there the first night. We got along so well the first night that we all went out to dinner afterwards - lots of fun. (Amy and I split a garlic rib-eye steak - so good! Huge ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina derekjjensen... around town on the first day and went down towards the docks. This place is bitterly cold but it is a great feeling to say we went to the most southerly city in the world.
It was in Ushuaia that i lost my hiking virginity. We were dropped in the local national park where we were met with bitter cold and rain. nice. We walked for 3 and a half hours along flat terrain along the lake shore. we couldnt really see what all the fuss as about so ...
... parts of Ireland or Scotland during winter. Its amazing how this landscape is attractive, but it just is. Its not bright, there aren`t any huge mountains or massive lakes or other rare or extreme geographical feature, but all the same it is still just beautiful . Though the biting wind makes it hard work. There was plenty of wildlife though we saw very little out of the ordinary, lots of rabbits, ducks and birds ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina shanem... the first was with Gillian in a mothwatering steak house near our hostel....it literally melted in my mouth and was the size of the plate!) and a blttle of Malbeck red wine with Lawrence, Emily and Rogier (my Spanish class partner) it becoem on a high note. Then we took ourselves off for a tango class for two hours in an old town house with tall ceilings and an enthusiatsic couple. It was brilliant. We learn how to ´camanar ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina cornflake... we jumped the queue, along with many other people.
We had almost an hour to kill before the car rental opened, so we sat in the café, enjoying a real cappuccino. It rained a bit but decided to stop about the time that Hertz opened. We had no problem renting, or driving to the port, or collecting our bags (having been warned that sometimes security would not let people who had disembarked back onto the pier). Absolutely no line, no customs, at all, unless you count a ...
... is "I thought it would be bigger :)" since the lighttower looks quite tall on pictures, but I would say it is maybe 10 meters high (maybe a little less) ... On the way back I decide to have a little snack and ask what they have to offer and get the shocking response:"We have fresh Linzer Torte" ... - after I ask her to spell it I still find it hard to believe ... So in the end I managed to go to the end of the world ...

Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina rogersusieq... witch of the following pressured issues I should first attend - my encrusted and painful bloody bleeding nose or the immediate urge of throwing up... But let me tell you how it all begun. It seems we left Santiago Chile ages ago, but most likely it's only 3 days since then. We were hauled out of the hotel at an inhumane early hour of 3am and transferred to the airport. From there we took a 5 hour charter flight to Ushuaia in Terra de Fuego, in Argentina ...
Ushuaia, Argentina dionea... hit us, and the boat suddenly turned into a very small and wet roller coaster! At 1 point we nearly turned back, but the crew got through the rough seas and we hit calmer waters once we neared the island we were too visit (although I now realise I am not built for the sea, and am better suited to the land). We had an enjoyable walk around H island (so called as it looks like a rather fat H from the air), and the guide told us about the wildlife and the history of the ...
