    Overnight stop in a great town

    This was a fine overnight. We left Caroline beach at first light and headed back
    south on the ICW magenta line.
    We arrived Southport early morning in time for me to get set up for work.

    Southport is a cute town with some fun shops and interesting restaurants.

    ... boring white cooler behind the bar. the bar itself has a maze of odd rooms to hang out in. One was a dark living room with old sofas and chairs and a big screen TV. Then around the corner a sandy outdoor space with corn hole games. picnic tables; and weird water falls with gaudy fish statues.

    In North Carolina we stayed in the lovely town of Wilmington which is situated on Cape Fear River. The surrounding estuaries and tidal lagoons team with lovely wildlife and the town itself is home to the Museum of Bizarre which Bella and Freddie loved. See pictures.     ... starred the Captain of the boat, and he was still acting way above his station. We dropped off the young man he harassed on the way over, along with the helmsman who he had also criticised in coming alongside. The Captain then let everyone know he would take the boat to the next landing stage. We came alongside and hit the jetty with such a thud the whole boat shuddered. 'The current is very strong here" , he reminded us all. ...

    We woke in the knowledge that England had dismissed Australia for 130 odd runs, then sat and listened as England lost wicket after wicket. Enough of that for now, it's too stressful. Wilmington should take about 4 hours of continuous driving, but it was never going to be as easy as that. The first task was to ensure the Sat Nav was programmed to avoid all toll roads. The literature handed to us by the hire firm ( Dollar, named for very good reason) ...
