49-51 Vasey Esplanade Trinity Beach, Queensland, Australia, 4879, 61-7-4057-7555
Friday June 20, 2008 We leave Sydney early in the morning and battle rush hour traffic to get to the airport. Amy is incredibly happy that she never has to drive in Sydney ever again. We hop on the flight to Cairns which is about 3 hours. We land in a tropical paradise. It's warm and sunny the second we exit the plane. There are forested mountains everywhere and palm trees and the most amazing blue skies with little white clouds. We hop in our minivan and head off to Trinity Beach, about 20 m...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia ichbinseinsWe woke up early and drove about 30 minutes south to the Cairns harbor where we hopped on the Reef Experience boat where we were going to spend the whole day. The top deck, where we were, was surrounded by big blue bench seats that were super deep with stairs in the middle. Down stairs was the saloon as they called it, the bathrooms and the water fountains. We all got our masks, fins and wetsuits and settled in. The ride out to the reef was really fast and choppy and soon I was sick. Amy got ...

Angoram wasn't much. We pulled up to a mudflat (around 12:15am) that had a tin shack enclosed in a wire fence, oil drums, and a resting platform. Across a muddy inlet, we could make out houses of the town in the moonlight. There was, of course, no electricity, so everything was dark. Skipper showed us a point where the PMV would arrive at 2am (!) – but said it wasn’t safe to go over there now to wait. So, after a lot of milling about, we settled into ...

... Hervey Bay and Fraser Island as the weather were sketch and the purse strings were tight.
we drove for thousands of kilometres it seemed, through Bundy, Rockhampton, Mackay and up to Airlie Beach, stopping at whatever national park was around - which reminds me - we went inland to Eungella National Park and trekked through tropical rainforest for the day (as the sun went down), stopping to watch Platypuses swimming in the river. by the time we got back ...
... up at 6:30am and just got back (it's almost 7:00pm right now). We took a tour van with about 7 or 8 of us. We went to a lot of view points, went on a crocodile-watching cruise and saw two crocks, took pictures, had a nice lunch mid way thru the day, and then ended up at Cape Tribulation, nice beach view of the Reef in the distance. More to come tomorrow! Hope you're all doing well!
Cairns, Queensland, Australia guitardara... laugh at me. First priority was to find a hostel to stay in, second priority, talcum powder. Ahh the relief of a corn-starch based anti-rash powder for way too much money. Life was good again. Well folks, we are getting tons of comments and emails about the blog. I hope everyone is enjoying it and we will keep it coming. We are in Cairns for about another day and a half, then we head to Sydney on tuesday and TOKYO ON THURSDAY!!! Giddy up. More to come soon. Cairns, Queensland, Australia chrisquared... give instruction on board during sea days e.g. handicraft lecturers, ballroom dancing instructors and also the lack of any special events taking place in some of the more prestigious ports of call (apparently other cruise lines have organised events in the Sydney Opera House during their world cruise). Having dined in the Bistro, by ourselves we watched the show, presented this evening by an Australian comedian, Mike Harris, before retiring after a long but enjoyable day.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia nickelaine... testicle key ring and purses made out of toads (which come with a certificate noting that they are pests which it says should get you through customs with no problems) - we didn't buy either!! After having lunch, we drove to the nearby Barron Falls and then to the "Rainforest Station" - one of the many tourist attractions around the village. There, we took a tour in a 2nd World War amphibious vehicle - a "Duck ...
Trinity Beach, Australia steve_and_jayne... of concrete. Tina showed us a huge clam type thing that was open and she could get her arm inside. It started to close up slowly around her but there was lots of soft tissue inside and it obviously wasn't going to try and eat her or anything lol. We got to feel the inside and it felt like velvet when it gets when (not that I wear velvet but I can imagine lol). She also showed us this other creature looked like a brown velvet sock (velvet again lol ...
