    ... houses, some very ran down. Alabama people all seem fairly laid back and do everything slow. Then we had a stop at USS Alabama Battlefields Memorial Park. Was pretty much a get off, take a pic, get on stop. Bit of a shame. Then we went to Pensacola Beach. I got my feet wet then got back on the bus to go to the hotel.     Our journey continues almost to Florida through 2 other states, Mississippi and sweet home Alabama. Pensacola is nice and has some great beaches. We checked out Perdido Key and Destin. But the later was a bit to touristy for us and not very dog friendly.

    ... Shore Beach and headed down to Orange Beach. As we settled down on the white sands a huge storm suddenly appeared on the horizon and within minutes we were engulfed in torrential rain which was as warm as a bath. The kids couldn't care less and continued to swim in the sea while Lee and I huddled in the car. Within ten minutes it had passed. Crazy weather! It has been great visiting Alabama which is very much a less well trodden tourist state but nonetheless lovely. Next stop ...

    ... lights in place of the oil lamp it was originally equipped with. Before electricity, the lighthouse keeper had to refill the kerosene three times each night. This was done by walking up the stairs carrying the cans of kerosene which weighed about 35 pounds or so. This while carrying a lantern in the other hand. Can't imagine doing that. The structure is 150' tall and is constructed of brick.
