... on a boat ride through the canals searching for a place to have dinner. Something that was a must-do was an elevator ride and lookout at the Burj Khalifa. The cars were little dots on the ground and other tall buildings were small by comparison. Another thing that was a great experience was four wheel driving in the desert. The interiors are much like western homes with all the modern conveniences. Most floors are ceramic with little carpet, one dust storm and you will understand why. In this neighbourhood the houses are built around man-made lakes that are surrounded by walking paths. Each neighbourhood has a swimming pool, playground and other outdoor recreation facilities.

... postgraduate studies. So to balance it all out they have the resources and are using it to better support the population, but they do like to boast. The boat trip made a pleasant, if slightly chilly, change. We were on a lovely old wooden dhow, with cushions and a floor to sit on. It took us out along the wide creek in the centre of the older part of Dubai, past a lot of old wooded trading boats, some of which looked pretty odd with stacks of boxes of modern ...
... no cream but said the passion fruit jam was scrumptious. I preferred the cakes to the savouries (surprise). They have a choice of teas or coffee. We spent a very nice couple of hours.
On our way back to the bus we passed the dancing fountains - and then went through the Dubai Mall. All the named shops and more that you can think of and an Aquarium. You can pay to go in but you also get a good view of the fish by standing outside.

... and I are already getting hooked on the local beer 'chang' - well especially Jonny. A half is 60 baht, and a pint is 100 baht so it's pretty cheap. Especially compared to the price of English beers, Jonny's Guinness in the first bar cost him 275!!! Our first initial impressions of Bangkok, more specifically, Khaosan road is great!! We're going to have an early night so we can wake up feeling fresh and PLAN PLAN ...
