... the invasion. One of the reasons was to knock out our most powerful, tactical, and skilled military base. But the island was well protected. In fact, it was protected by dozens of battleships, a few hundred planes, and the state of the art radar (of course, compared to today's radar, the old radar is terrible. But back then it was a miracle of modern science). So the island would not be a pushover. What they did a year before the bombing was make a plan to sail the aircraft ...

I have put up some photos and now are just waiting for the midnight fireworks to welcome in 2015. Once I have some photos I will put them up but this is so far.

Until later. Crowds are building on the beach, it is now 11.45pm, only 15 minutes to go.

WOW, they were fantastic.....and there is even a short video of the last 30 seconds.

... there were a lot of people getting surfing lessons - we considered that too, but decided we needed to work on our strength & flexibility first (it's also much cheaper in Australia too). The next day we managed at the last minute to get on a day tour which really helped us to understand the geography and history of the island.

Day 3 we went on a 1/2 day tour of Pearl Harbor which was fascinating & very moving. The main memorial is positioned above ...

... us). We went to eat a bite at the cheeseburger place. Ben had a pulled pork sandwich and I had cheeseburger sliders. The Piņa Colada and Mai Tais were really good and only 3$ during happy hour yum! From there we strolled around the shops near Waikiki and I bought a bunch of goodies from Quicksilver. Then we hit the hay for a "nap" around 7pm but ended up sleeping in until the next morning - whoops! Guess we were tired... We needed this ...

... out to Waikiki Beach. The weather was beautiful, and we walked along the beach. Walking along, with our feet in the water it was great. We had found a beach side food hut called the Steak Shack on Trip Advisor and went there for lunch. We shared a tray of shaved steak rice and salad. We could taste why it was so well reviewed online :) We made our way up to the Tiki Grill after the steak for cocktails. ...
