Living the Dream. A week of skiing followed by 6 weeks of rugby. Does it get any better than this. Oh yes, Giuli comes out to join me. And I am not just saying this because she reads the blogs! Honest!

The plan was to fly directly into Queenstown following a short 3 hour hop across the Tasman Sea from Sydney - well, that was the plan. As the plane approached Queenstown, we had a magnificent view of the Southern Alps and the Remarkable Mountains with their snow capped peaks jutting upwards into the clear blue skies. The problem was that the clear …

Historical Traveler Reviews Oaks Shores Queenstown

    What a wonderful place

    from me1973

Thoroughly agree with all other positive reviews, this place is utterly wonderful. The apartment was fantastic, amazing views, beautiful furnishings, masses of space. We've stayed in a lot of apartments during our 4 months of travel and this was by far the best.

Only downside is the bizarre layout of the buildings, and amount of steps you need to negotiate. Expect to wander around the building complex, arguing about which door to use and where the hell the room is, and then expect to jump for joy when you actually reach the room! It was a bargain too, only £42 (UK sterling) a night, amazing.

Wheelchair users would struggle as would single travellers with a buggy / pram.

Queenstown and area is marvellous too, with the drive to Milford Sound just spectacular (stay in Te Anau as a base). Also for the best views of Queenstown visit Deer Hills Park, it looks uninspiring, but when you are on it the views are to die for.

    Best Accommodation of our Trip

    from capejoy

This complex is made up of privately owned 3 bed apartments, one of the bedrooms being a studio unit with its own separate entrance that can be let separately. We had booked a one bedroom apartment and as we walked into the apartment we immediately had a 'wow' moment. There is a fully fitted kitchen area at the rear of the lounge area with fridge/freezer, 2 small dishwashers (1 on top of the other), food disposal unit and a washing machine and tumble dryer cunningly concealed in a cupboard. The view from the lounge area is wonderful and there is a plasma tv screen on the wall and also in the main bedroom. Our only complaint was that apart from a very small built in hanging robe in the main bedroom, there was no storage space. This problem was resolved when they opened up the second bedroom for us and the receptionist said they had received a lot of complaints about the lack of drawer/cupboard space and it was a subject up for discussion at the next owners' meeting. Apart from that niggle we had exceptionally good value by doing a late booking through the Wotif website. We liked the out of town location of Oaks Shores as it didn't take very long to drive into Queenstown and at the time we were there parking wasn't a problem. Might be different in the peak months. Overall, it is an excellent place to stay and unless you want to be in the heart of Queenstown, you won't do better.

The best acconmmodation of our two stay!

    from YKim

We stayed at the Oaks Shores apartment for 6nights during June this year.

We booked a two bedroom apartment and was given one overlooking the lake.

The apartment was really spacious and new.

As it was newly opened, there were some teething problems but the staff did their best to rectify the problems.

We discovered upon check in that the shower door in the children's room had dropped and couldn't open. We called the front desk immediately and was expecting them to move us to another 2bedroom apartment but to our pleasant surprise, they opened the connecting door to the studio room next to our apartment so we could use the other bathroom. Eventually, we ended up in a three bedroom apartment for the price of a 2bedroom.

We had actually booked a stay of 4nights in Queenstown but because the apartment was so beautiful and comfortable, we decided not to drive to Te Anau for our cruise to Milford Sound and extended our stay at Oaks Shores for 2 more nights. We took a flight to the cruise center in Milford instead and so that save us the drive to Te Anau, hunt for accommodation and drive off very early the next morning to Milford Sound.

Because we had 4people in our party, that works out to be only about NZ$100plus more by flight compared to driving.

We will certainly stay at Oaks Shores again if we are visiting Queenstown. Its a wonderful and relaxing place for an extended family vacation.

    Awesome stay and view

    from gund

I must say this is probably the best apartment for our south island trip. We were given a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment was comfortable and the view outside was refreshing. It helps that the apartment is pretty new and there was a good price promotion when we made our reservation (we booked directly from the property).

    The good:

    - very clean and comfortable

    - loved the toilets for its floor heaters (which we thought was quite rare??)

    - the washing machine and dryer is exclusively for the apartment (no need for sharing nor having to search for coins to operate it)

    - the kitchen is very well equipped with the hardwares (utensils, bread toasters, dish washer, microwave etc)

    - we love the fireplace which is electronically operated

    - sheltered carpark so no worries if it rains

    - Queenstown accommodation is rather expensive so for NZ$249/night, this is quite a steal (for such quality).

    The not so good:

    - it's about 5-8 minutes drive to the heart of queenstown.

    - the locks to the bedroom and toilet doors were faulty (quite strange since it's a very new development)

    - there are a couple of steps we had to take from the carpark to our apartment. if you have traveling partners who can't manage those steps, it's important to let the property know ahead.

Seriously, there aren't many credible not-so-good factors that will keep us from going back to this property. I'd highly recommend it if you feel the above negative points are not a concern. :)

    You Won't Want To Leave

    from allanmc

This is the type of place that once you walk in you won't want to leave. Fantastic property. I booked after reading the previous reviews and thay are all spot on. There is not much more I can add. Wine on the balcony over looking the fantastic views, fire burning at night while listening to the surround sound system.

Extremley comfortable in all aspects. Congratulations to the management for a fine establishment and to the decorator for the ambience. Well done. We didn't want to leave.

    Highly recommended.

While it is a little way out of town, it takes 20-30min along the walking track, don't let this put you off and if you are going to Queenstown...stay there !!!

    Absolutely Fantastic!!

    from LindaJB

My partner and I spent 6 nights at the Oaks during the last week of August. It had the "wow" factor as soon as we opened the apartment door. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment (without asking), the facilities in the apartment were great, everything looked brand new. There is nothing else we could have asked for, it had everything we needed. Definitely most welcoming after a day's skiing.

I would recommend this to anyone who would like 5 star accommodation, without the 5 star price.

    Fantastic!

    Pure Luxury!

    from quirkyfruit

Husband & I stayed for a week at Oaks Shore Apartments during early August 2006. We too were given free upgrade to a 2-bed apartment. Agree with all previous posts - apartments very well appointed, with brand new appliances (with washing & dishwashing powders provided). Plasma screens, remote controlled fire place. And the best thing - the fantastic views from the large lounge window and balcony. Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables were stunning any time of day.

We paid NZ$145 per night (unserviced) and it was worth every penny. The hotel is out of the town centre, but it's only a 5 minute drive into Queenstown. It is also well placed for skiing at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, which was the main reason for our holiday. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the restaurant and hotel part were not open whilst we were there (due to open 21 Aug), so there was no restaurant on site. Only criticism would be the tiny wardrobe/hanging space iin master bedroom, although there was a chest of drawers.

We would definitely stay here again (provided the prices don't go up considerably once the hotel is open). We would also recommend this to family & friends.

    Great week at the Shores

    from janspro

Loved our week at this property. Modern, clean, stylish and lots of space. We were upgraded to 2 bedroom apartment. Views from the balcony (we were on the 8th floora) were superb - we loved being on the lake edge. Plasma tv in the longue & bedroom, gas cooker, washer & dryer - everything was so new.

Only criticisms would be that there are no drawers in the master bedroom (unless I missed something) & the cupboard was quite small, so nowhere to store the suitcase. It is also a little tricky to get your bags to the room from the way the place is set up but not really a concern for us.

$10 taxi ride to town or you could easily walk. So close to the mountains for skiing. Would definately recommend. In fact we liked it so much we came back for our last night & stayed in one of there hotel rooms which was also nice.

    Absolutely Stunning

    from anonymous

Absolutely stunning. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment, was amazed when I entered the room. All furnishings were new and modern, Flat screen tv's, remote control fireplaces, new kitchen and fantastic washing facilities. The view is fantastic. Great for families and groups.

    Great place!

    from Faizura

Great apt, very spacious , luxurious, modernly decorated. All apt face the beautiful lake wakatipu. Apt is new, so all facilities are in good condition. Highly recommended.

Location - 5-10 minutes drive to city centre. 10 mins drive fm the airport.
