Day 21 - Gatlinburg - Tennessee
One last stop before I bid Kentucky farewell and that was at Daniel Boone National Forest to see the Cumberland Falls. In 1775 Daniel Boone led a group of men through the Cumberland Gap (a pass between the Appalachian Mountains) to widen the pass in order to make settlement into Kentucky and Tennessee easier. Beautiful time of year to be visiting!

We learned during our visit that it was PEAK time to see the changing leaves, and they were GORGEOUS! (See my main blog picture for a great example of the colors...was ideal at the bottom of the mountains, but as we went up, the trees had already lost their leaves...)

... foliage. Leaves in every shade of red, orange, yellow, pink, and peach brightened the landscape and made for a very relaxing and enjoyable hike. We even found another giant tulip poplar, this one with a hole in the back, so it was not as obvious from the trail. And the hole went all the way up with light coming in at the very top.
