The Newport Mansions were built as weekenders by wealthy NY families around the late 1800's and early 1900's. I continued along the Connecticut coast on minor roads as close to the beaches as possible on the busy Memorial Day start to the summer. The season was just beginning in the nice beach and harbor towns along the way. I made a short stop in Mystic but didn't go to Mystic Seaport Museum this time since it was already late in the day. Mystic was very crowded and touristy.
