... the streets of Amsterdam enjoying the canals and bistros (looking into those coffee houses and red-light windows) for which it is so famous. We had dinner on the Jewel canal cruise again. ... our age and from all over Aust and NZ. We had the first night in Amsterdam after onboard dinner and managed to end up in a "coffee" cafe having a mild joint with 2 Egyptian boys who were on a break from studying medicine. We ended up eating crepes in a cafe watching the crowds pass. Amsterdam is beautiful, picturesque and fun. Too many champers and a puff saw us collapse in bed and awake to a tour of the town and canals by boat the next morning. Then onto Ultrecht to pick up the boat ...

... and for a mere 10 euro the taxi deposited us outside our seven week abode (turns out 3 euro on bus or tram would have done the same). Jens' boyfriend Leighton was to meet us with key, only problem was that we had no phone coverage, still a local shopkeeper was more than happy to help. Leighton came down with a big smile and a warm welcome, grabbing Angela’s' suitcase he proceeded to bound up the stairs, three flights of them!

... bike toss competitions with whichever bikes they can find that aren't bolted down to see who can get the furthest distance, and apparently they remove up to 10,000 of them each year! We had noticed right away that there are sooo many bikes in the city - everywhere you turn, there are bikes - but we learnt on the walking tour that Amsterdam actually has more bikes than people!
