      Lazy day in The Valley

... days riding had taken it out of us and we were shattered.

During the evening we went to a pizzeria and had something to eat before having a drink at 'Mama Maria' and then returning to the hotel for a nightcap in the bar. The highlight of the night was probably me walking around the city with a large rip in my shorts!

Andorra is classed as a micro state and the 6th smallest country in Europe. It has a population of around 85,000 and is a tax haven. It has the 3rd highest life expectancy in the world at 84 years and the official language is Catalan. Andorra La Vella is the highest capital city in Europe at a height of just over 1000m or 3,356 feet above sea level.

Our lovely GPS will not recognise Barcelona Airport, so we settle for entering Barcelona as our destination. The roads out of Andorra are very good, but it takes almost 90 minutes to completely clear the Pyrennes. With some impressive tunnels it is ...

      Carcassonne to Andorra

We begin the day by having a final wander around parts of Carcassonne citie and are on the road by 11. We have a new country to visit - Andorra - which is less than 200 Kms away. The first part of the trip is relatively uninteresting, as scenically the area around Carcassonne has little to offer. However once we get beyond Foix the landscape immediately changes as we reach the foothills of the Pyrenees. The road winds sharply and steeply to an altitude,of over 2000 metres. ...

      Big Bike Ride

... a tractor, where the road flattened out a bit. Finally, we could cycle, so we did.

We bumped past sleepy cows and meadows of wildflowers. The mountains were blue in the distance and the track became less stony. In fact, the rains for the previous days were pooled in large clay-lined puddles, across the path. This allowed mud to stick to the wheels in thick glops and clog up all the brakes.
