Historical Traveler Reviews Morasol Suites Puerto Rico
My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week at the Morasol Suites in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria and I could not speak more highly of it.
The hotel is modern and clean with friendly and helpful staff and a fantastic maid service. The pool area is fantastic with a large clean pool and lots of sunbeds (good quality ones too not just those cheap white plastic ones), there is also a rooftop terrace with more sunbeds and a jacuzzi which has great views of the harbour and surrounding area.
Our room was large and tastefully decorated with air conditioning, an electronic safe, powerful shower (with more than enough room for 2) and every room has a balcony or terrace with a view of the pool. It also had everything we could need as self catering customers (kettle, fridge, microwave, toaster, blender, juicer, coffee machine etc) though we chose to eat out in the evenings.
I would have no hesitation in recommening these apartments, they are in a great location next to the harbour meaning that unlike lots of accommodation in Puerto Rico you don't have to trek up and down the hill to get there and are about 5 minutes from the beach or 15 minutes from the bars and shops in the commercial centre. Taxi's are plentiful and very cheap though so if you fancy taking it easy it's not a problem.
In my opinion the hotel would appeal to all ages and types, my boyfriend and I are in our early twenties and thought that it was close enough to the nightlife without it bothering you if you weren't interested in staying out while 3am, there were couples of all ages and families young and old staying here aswell.
It was my first holiday to the Canary Islands but based on this trip and this hotel, I would happily go back.
My wife and i have just returned from a 10 day holiday in puerto rico, gran canaria. We stayed in the Morasol Suites, which we found to be excellent. The rooms were very spacious and exceptionaly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpfull.
There is a wonderful roof top sun terrace with whirl pool and very comfy sunbeds , no matter what time of the day you went you were always able to get one. Your room was cleaned daily and we had clean bedding twice a week.
All rooms have a large balcony which overlooks the marina and the pool area which is very nice.
On the down side, there wasn't a snack bar beside the pool or the sun terrace, you had to use the lobby bar, which also lacked some athmosphere.
If any one is thinking of going to puerto rico i would recommend you try and stay at the Morasol Suites, it's a great place to stay.
Quiet / Relaxing Week @ Morasol
Stayed at the Morasol for 1 week early Jan 2007. Holiday was booked at last minute, was looking to book Marina Suites but they were booked out. Location is very good in Puerto Rico overlooking the Marina and the Marina Suites are right next door !.The apts were lovely and clean , modern with a superb bedroom (large) great bathroom with powerful shower and balcony overlooking Marina. There is a fab sun terrace on 3rd floor with great views and a hot tub. We did not use the Pool area at all as we loved the terrace also we were on 2nd floor and very close to it. There were loads of very comfy sunbeds , so no rush with your towel in am !!!!!. The staff were very nice and helpful. There is a bar and resturant in the complex. We ate on New Years Eve in restaurant and it was very nice. The Complex has a minamilist / modern feel to it.. The down sides of our stay was the lack of any facilities on the Terrace No snack bar etc. I could not see snack bar anywhere near pool either ! the Complex was very quiet, it seemed everyone stayed in their apts so it lacked atmosphere around bar area. But then again I looked in to The Marina Suites and they were also very quiet in bar area. All in all we had a very quiet relaxing holiday which we enjoyed very much.
Well worth a stay!
Just returned from a one week vacation in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria and we stayed at the Morasol Suites.
We had two rooms. One booked as part of a package via Thomson (World of Tui) and the other direct with the hotel.
The total cost of going direct and via Thomson was a minimal difference, but going direct got a better room.
One member of our party was in a wheelchair and she commented on how great the room and the hotel was for a person with mobility issues and we would certainly recommend the hotel if you are travelling with anyone in a wheelchair.
The location of the hotel is also good for wheelchair users as you are in the harbour and not up in the hills!
The hotel staff are excellent. Very friendly, accommodating and a good laugh. The evening entertainment in the hotel is not great, but I think it is the same across the island, so you just accept it.
Every room is front facing, so everyone has a good view.
If you enjoy the pool (water is cold!) then try to get a room facing the pool on the ground floor.
There is a great sun deck on top of the hotel.
We did not eat in the hotel as there is so much choice and Gran Canaria is not the type of place to go and stay in the hotel.
The hotel provides beach towels and a good range of essentials, soap, shampoo etc. which is great especially with all the travel restirctions on luggage at the moment.
The rooms come with a kitchenette which is very well stocked should you decide to make your own meals.
Housekeeping standards are excellent!
I would not recommend Thomson as a Tour Operator for Gran Canaria as we never saw our Rep and she never made any attempt to contact us.
Only downside to Gran Canaria is that it can be 'Brits abroad' which gives us a bad name and touts are everywhere and impossible to avoid. A real pain!
A Thoroughly Pleasant Stay
My partner and I have just returned from two weeks in Puerto Rico, staying in the Morasol Suites. When booking the holiday through the travel agent, we specified our desire for a high standard of accomodation and after trawling through a number of resorts and hotels we eventually came across the Morasal Suites. Impressed by the facilities and photos on the web, we settled on this and promptly booked up.
Upon arriving at the hotel (actually it's an aparthotel with kitchenette facilities etc.) we were immediately impressed with the look and feel of the building, the contemporary and spacious reception area and, importantly the warmth of our welcome from the staff (despite it being 3am!). The best was still to come, we were directed to our room on the top floor and were blown away by the sheer size of our apartment. 2 large double bedrooms, with lots of storage, a beautiful bathroom and an open plan living/dining/kitchenette all decorated tatefully and to a high standard and benefitting from air conditioning throughout. The living room opened out on to a large balcony (with table and four chairs) rewarding us with a great view over the marina, ocean and up into the mountains.
Further to the high standard of accomodation, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the whole hotel was kept in pristine condition with the highest standards of cleanliness.
Exellent Hotel with great service
We decided to book this hotel after looking around on the internet for a hotel with good standards and air condition. Looking good on pictures we really looked forward to this stay.
As we got there, we found the hotel more then we had dreamt of. Exellent service, fabulous cleaning and wonderful rooms. We had a 1 bedroom apartment, looking really good. Very spacios and exellent view over the harbour. The apartment had a well equipped kitchenette, and the bedroom had lots of closet space.
Highly recommended, as we are going back this year too! :)
Having been to Gran Canaria a few times we elected to go to Puerto Rico rather than the more clubby resort of Playa Del Ingles. Puerto Rico has an extremely picturesque harbour and a lovely family beach. Parts of the resort (especially the main commercial centre) are quite tacky but there are more classy restaurants and bars at the far end of the beach and at the back of the resort in the more Spanish parts.
We booked the Morasol Suites on the net after looking around and paid around £300 which wasn't much more than we would have paid for far inferior accomodation. The fact it's right beside the harbour is great as Puerto Rico is built into a hill and some of the apartments in the resort are up hundreds of steps. We had a lovely flat walk and it took about 5-10 mins to get to the beach and about 20 mins to the main commercial centre. There are cafes and bars and a small commercial centre nearer than this. The Morasol apparently has two rooms specifically for guests with mobility difficulties.
The Morasol is a stylish hotel which is furnished in a quite chic urban style. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and the standard of cleanliness is the best I have ever experienced in a holiday hotel. There are two pools out front but we found them a bit cold in February. However there is an excellent rooftop sun terrace where sunbeds are comfortable and in plentiful supply. One of the highlights of our stay was watching the sunset over the harbour from the comfort of the heated jacuzzi. Our room didn't have a harbour view or balcony (it looked out on to a Jurassic Park-like rock formation!) so we made full use of the terrace. The staff in the hotel were very pleasant and efficient and the bar and restaurant looked nice but there were never any customers in there!
While you are in P. Rico I would highly recommend a trip to the thermal spa at the hotel Gloria Palace Amadores. Go in the early evening and experience luxurious water treatments while looking out on a panoramic view of the sea. It costs about 2oE and is a 2E taxi ride from the Morasol. Also recommended is an all-day pleasure boat cruise (boats leave from right opposite your hotel) and a ferry trip to the charming village of Mogan.
