... where I had started my naval career, the warships moored at North Island, and the submarine facilities near Point Loma. OF course the Naval Training Center is mostly gone, replaced by upscale homes and marinas, but the memories will always be with me. I thank you San Diego, for being such an important marker on my path through the years.

Palm Springs to San Diego 150 miles

... hills. Then back on the road westwards to San Diego, passed the camel farm http://www.cameldairy.com but didn't stop to try the camel ice cream or yoghurt (wouldn't fancy milking one of those nasty creatures) and after an couple of hours arrive home around 4pm, plenty of time for Wills basketball match. ... hours exploring the aircraft carrier, the girls earning their junior wings and Steve and Maddy having a go in a WWII warbird flight simulator. Steve was in his element, however talking to the volunteers working on the ship, many who served either on it or other US ships was very interesting.

In the 'war room' it was amazing to see maps, flights and squadron names of Operation Desert Storm ...
