... I did the hardest bit. Very windy though and sleeping out was not that pleasant.

Finally it was a walk east around the coast to Elafonisi. It was meant to take 5-6 hours. Well 9 hours later, with a very swollen and sore ankle, I made it. The track wasn’t particularly well defined and certainly in most parts couldn’t really be called a track. Lots of rock hopping trying to follow some marks and marker posts. Very ...

After a while on the beach, we found a good waterfront restaurant and were shocked by how low the prices were ...

... lost. It is kept really well.

Chania was the setting off point for me to hike the Samaria gorge. An early morning bus (6am) to the top of the gorge (Omalos) (about 1 hour) and then a long walk downhill through the gorge. The first part was a long zig zag down to the base of the gorge ( from about 1300 meters). Then it was a 15km through the gorge going slightly down hill all the way (the way ...

... Exhausted Evie and Sue watched some of their favorite musical numbers from Grease which was Evie's reward for not complaining once during our long walk. "Why would I?" she said, "it was totally awesome!" I supposed when you've hiked through the Dolomites in knee deep snow this would be considered a piece of cake. Exhausted but happy, lights were out in our room by 10:30 as the rest of Greece waited to see if there beloved country would make their IMF payment due at ...
