In the morning we went to see the Devil's Post Pile near Mammoth Lakes. These unusually shaped rock fingers resulted from cooling lava, millions of years ago. We went over a pass at 9,200 ft and down to the post pile at an elevation of over 8,000 ft. It was 36 deg F when we got there at 9:30am, but a brisk walk at that elevation soon got the heart pumping.

... next to lakes and people using the lakes like they are a beach (makes sense though, as the beach is sooo far away). Apart from that, there wasn't much to see, but the lakes were beautiful.

Did another huge walk taking in the atmospher of this unique area and then visiteded Madam Tousseuo,s wax woks and see all the stars. It was fun. Had avoided this experience in London but somehow it seemed fitting here. Lots of photographs taken with favourite film stars!!!!

... of nowhere, where we thought we saw civilisation again, we found in the middle of nowhere the US marine Corps high altitude training centre. We reached a small town, where we filled up the tank with petrol and continued on our journey until we came across Mono Lake.
