After several false starts, a stop to buy a map, water and the inevitable rest room, we were off, hopefully in the right direction.

I reckoned we had about 340 miles to go, so we didn't have a lot of time to frig about.
The first 100 miles was through the desert, with the occasional Joshua tree and vast open views, with gorgeous, muted colours.

... the campsites dont tend to have power.We also had to register the van in san fran, so had to go to dmv (same as dvla) the queue was so big all the way outside we were there for 3 hours! Phil really wanted to go to alcatraz so we went to the pier to get tickets, to find out it was fully booked for about 3 weeks! we were so gutted, i could tell phil was really fed up it ruined his day.
