We leave the Ranch in Death Valley at a later time than usual - 0550hours to drive via the Alabama Hills to Mammoth Lakes. First we drive through Stovepipe Wells probably twinned with Tunbridge in UK, through the Panamint Mountain range along the very scary but oh so beautiful Towne Pass elevated at 5000ft and out of DV and into the Inyo mountains. We finish the last 10-15 miles or so, driving in the dark, wishing we could see it all! After we exit the park, we have about a 3000 foot drop to make it down to Mammoth Lakes where we ...

... loop. This portion of the trail demonstrating that the lake was at least twice as big at one time. It was such a sad testimony to poor environmental policies, yet I could not help but be captivated by the unique and beautiful creation that man’s mistake had made.

Before our trip, a friend had told me that a gas station here had a gourmet chef. Famished from swimming we pulled into the Mono Lake Mobil. Fish tacos for Mike and Ahi tuna on a seaweed salad for ...
