... a better view into the valley. Before we leave the car park, we sort out our gear for rapid evacuation at the airport. We nearly forget to fill the car with petrol, but manage to get the credit card system working and put about $30 worth in and get a receipt for it. (Spent total of US$49 on petrol, for average mileage of 30 mpg, which was somewhat better than our 8.6 mpg in campervan in Alaska!)

of our view and the sun is slowly setting on the seaward side. It turns into
the most spectacular sunset and the ...

Leianna had recommended a good starter surf spot on the road to Lahaina. We decide to give that a go - there was a lot of rain in the night and another shower this morn and it's usually drier that side of the island anyway. ... enough to remind us that we'd been away from elevation for a week plus! The temperature dropped from 80 degrees to about 50 at the top and so windy! Every time we stopped for pictures, I'd add a layer! We stayed to watch sunset which was amazing how the sun lit up the clouds. Of course driving back down the mountain in the dark was not as much fun, especially for the easily nauseated ...
