Milos and the beach!

Today we just got back from the most incredible rock beach. The rock was solid formations of bleached white stone, rising in cliffs and leaning into the clear blue sea. The water was warm and the sun was way to hot. The bus system here requires us to shell out about ten euros a day to get around, but its worth it. From camping last night (in the sometimes unsleepable heat!), we woke up and bused into town and then to the Sarakini (the rock beach.) Our camera ran out of batteries ...

Man, this is windy!!

... 8217;s engine was too weak and died. So, we rolled down the hill backwards in order to start again.

Some people came up to us and told us we would need to back up as far as possible and hit the hill with a running start and with as much power as we could get. So, we backed up about 150 feet for a running start and tried again. This time we made it half way up the steep part (about 1,500 feet of road) and the engine gave out again because it was just too weak to avoid ...

The best island in Greece

... we were concerned that we must not have used correct Greek when ordering and we wanted to correct our error. So, to help us correct our apparent mistake we said, “What do you call two glasses of red wine?” He replied in English, “I say two glasses of red wine”. We explained that we understood how to say it in English, but we wanted to know how to say it correctly in Greek.. He gave us a very clear and enlightening ...

Discovering the beauty of Folegandros

... top of our Hotel Castro to enjoy the formidable view from atop and took some took some beautiful pictures.

Dinner in Chora:

Dinner tonight was much, much better than yesterday. Argi picked a local restaurant on the main square of the village, opposite the small church. I forgot the name of the restaurant – but there was a queue and we had to wait to get a table ...

were totally destroyed!

From Vorina Bay to Chora (Hora):

We stayed for quite some time on this beach as we were rather tired from all the climbing. Climbing upwards to the road level was harder than going down. By the time we reached the road, it was already early ...

... to the mountain where there is a church. The only problem was that we did not know how to get up there. After many efforts we end up heading up a goat path with the car. I was so nervous we were making turns with no barrier stopping us from driving off the edge the pictures don't do it justice how steep the road was. The view on top were unbelievable.

Getting tarred up in more ways than one

... bars of Ios that were still open including the Blue Note, the Orange Bar, Flames and a bunch of others that I cant remember. It involved Killer Pool, the best take on eight ball that I had seen in a long time involving rounds of iliminations and intermittent shots, made more dramatic by the sudden power cut halfway through the game. One of our own, Brendan, did us proud by being the runner up, narrowly missing out on the cash ...

A Gyro's Welcome

... reaction was hilarious. Chad looked up, laughed, looked at Bill, and then immediately returned to his magazine. Bill, seeing us coming, moved his book lower to avoid eye contact and began to chuckle. The second beach we went to was sandier and nudism was prohibited. We grabbed some snacks and enjoyed the view. The third stop was purely to enjoy the sunset. We had some umbrella drinks, beers, and ouzo and watched a beautiful sunset over Ios. That night, we had dinner with our ...

... in Greece was the port town of Katakalon on the Greek Peloponnesus- ideal because of its close vicinity to Olympia- founding place of the Olympics. Perfect weather greeted us as we negotiated a taxi ride to the historic sight. The 30 minute ride was through beautiful country side and a great introduction to Greece. The sight itself is set in rolling hills and dense greenery. Awesome ruins still stand and we even got to run a lap in the original running track. The ...
