... across the water. Later in the evenings, lovers would practice gazing dreamily into each other's eyes as the sun goes to sleep. Alan and I had even discussed on our last trip there, how when we are both dead and onto our next incarnation, Donny would have to come by and scatter our ashes into the sea right there. Not because it was a picturesque spot, but because of how happy we always felt being there.

... funny. The cocktail was very sweet but quite nice. They also give you monkey nuts at the table and you can throw the shells on the floor - very strange. It's something you have to do though when in Singapore!
Singapore is such a clean place - apparently you can be fined for loads of stuff there. Like in the metro you can be fined for eating and drinking and I was supping away on my water without realising it! The ...

This hostel is great, people are so friendly I feel like they are already my mates. Only problem was me trying to struggle up 3 flights of stairs with overloaded suitcase. Not as bad as my stack at the escalators at the metro resulting in a graize and bruise to the right shin. I already have battle scars on day one of this trip. But I'm glad the suitcase didn't flatten the nice girl a few steps behind me on the escalator.

Singapore, Singapore shelleyandsimmo... but decided to skip it since it wasn't free...
We left the Gardens a bit after sunset, and did the cable cars up to Mount Faber. At the top offered great views of the city centre, illuminated at night by all the skyscraper lights. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't turn out so well. Other than taking pictures, there's not much to do up there so we went back down and went for drinks at one of the restaurants/bars on Clarke Quay...
Leaving Johor Bharu heading for Singapore felt quite surreal! We could walk to the immigration point from our hotel within 5 minutes and literally walked out of Malaysia, onto a bus that took us into Singapore!
We were dropped off at a metro stop where we then took the metro to Lavender station where we were staying at a ...
... park on the ocean with free concerts and yes more malls. The city really impressed me because of the order and comfort, but still a city, so after a short time I wanted to go to Malapascua to see the thresher sharks, so after checking the net on the free computers at the airport I left on my midnight flight to Cebu. The time is running really fast now, the end of the trip is near so you do not want to miss the next few blogs I hope.
Singapore, Singapore hectorisdiving... to swing into my eye.
Andy tells me that mid-summer doesn't matter at the equator, nevertheless it is very hot and humid, giving rise to phenomena such as outdoor fans and 'shut the door, you're letting the hot air in!'. Fortunately the locals have airconditioning sussed - not so cold that you need to carry a jumper, but a refreshing escape wben it all gets too much.
The backpacker community is sniffy about Singapore; having all the signs in English, everyone speaking it in ...
