The last National Band disbanded 5 years ago at the end of the 2009 World Championships in Kerkrade. For the 12 members of the current band who were on that trip it's great to be back! We're joined by 13 people for whom this is their first National Band and 6 who have been away and come back.

I was up early. Although this was scheduled to be pretty much a rest day I had quite a bit of work to be done today.
I had a call with Rob Rollinger at Intel at 5am. Good to talk with Rob again and we made good progress.
I then had a call with Katie and Kevin at Intel as we went through some promotional thoughts and opportunities.

Woke up early as Mel and Jed were picking me up at 9 to drive to hot water beach and sure enough just as I finished breakfast they rang to say they were outside. Jed offered to drive there and it basically rained off and on for the entire 2 hour there. Luckily just as we pulled into the car park it eased off and we remained dry whilst heading to the cafe to hire a spade in order to dig our holes. In order to get to the part of the beach ...
... gardens, approximately 20 minutes away by car. A great expanse of land with a lovely visitor centre (containing the worlds best kids jigsaws) made for an enjoyable few hours. We had a nice lunch followed by ice cream (tea and cake for me) in the sunshine before heading back towards our motel and a trip to the nearby park for swings, slides, seesaws and spinny things as the evening sun beamed down. Auckland is growing on us.
... a self sufficient unit (meaning it has a built-in toilet and waste water tanks) you need to go to a camping place at… wait for it $40-50 per night. Anyway as I said, that is how I experienced it. Also the whole camper deal is more expensive than getting a car and separate accommodation. The New Zealanders themselves I found to be ok. The Maori community I found a bit friendlier.
