... two restaurants gave us raki that could have been confused for vodka, this time the raki was smooth and almond flavored, perfect for sipping as we gazed out over the harbor hustle and bustle. After dinner we wandered through the streets and alleys within the old city wall. It is a great place to people watch and e architecture is beautiful. A note about restaurants. We awoke late this morning still a little tired after our late arrival last night. I was just able to sync yesterday's post. Our hotel is an old Venetian building that has been beautifully renovated. We had the best yogurt I've ever had along with a huge variety of other items for breakfast in the charming courtyard. ... countries. The kids are gone, all day, with other children, playing. They are some of the first friendships they have formed in a year. I read a book this week; the first one of the trip.

Obviously, we meet thousands of people as we journey and we enjoy telling the story of our trip, how we've done it, and enumerating the countries we've been to. The questions are always the same: "How do you pack for such a trip? ...

... in a café with the locals, and a beer.

Another day went right over to the south coast. It’s not so far – about 40km. The island of Crete is split (north and south) by mountains and the drive is quite scenic as you pass through the gorge in the mountain range – the same gorge that the fleeing British, Australian and New Zealand solders passed through in 1941 to escape the ...
