The Greyhound bus trip from Vegas to San Diego, was an experience I suggest any one wanting to see and meet the real USA head on. After checking into the Sheraton near little Italy, we headed towards the harbour for dinner, Antony's on the harbour. Day two, took an early walk around the Gaslamp district and shopping plazas. Familiarising ourselves with the different sections of this city. We jumped on the train and bus to visit Mission beach and old town. The wind was up ...

... a last paddle in the Pacific. It was not the best sandy beach but had great breakers and I got soaked. Just as well my suitcase was in the car. Here we saw Amtrak trains! We have been near tracks most of our journey and only seen one freight train and like London Buses three come along at once! We then had to take the I 5 there being no alternative. A lot of the rides were made for little kids, not like Disneyland where they were made for big kids too (like ...

... despite my hotel owner being adamant that it was not. The walk took me through a protected wetland populated with a variety of birds and I came out on a wide, sandy beach.

The surf pounded against the beach and, in case anyone was in any doubt, a red flag marked "peligro" fluttered in the strong breeze. Still a few people dared to enter and would emerge moments later looking somewhat bedraggled but relieved to have made it out in one piece. One who was ...

... going through the Panama Canal…..a smaller ship is required!

At exactly 1:00pm, we had access to our cabins. Ours was on Deck 7, port side and in the middle of the ship. Cabin number 7046! With a private balcony, sofa and bed, I rapidly settled in and waited for my luggage to arrive!

For some unknown reasons, the ship left the port in the evening at a much ...
