    We checked out around 10:30am (after working since 7am for me), then drove to see a couple of waterfalls. We got lost on our way to one (Google maps said we could take the private road with locked gate through mud) but this meant we saw two beautiful waterfalls. The road to Wailua Falls deadends at the Falls -- clearly just takes you there to see it.

    ... all soaked by the time we were done. 2) We had hoped to see actual lava flowing down the side of the mountain. However, lava flow changes every day, and the park opens or closes sections depending on the safety of the flow and the level of hazardous volcanic gases. Unfortunately, there was no access allowed to the lava flow when we were there. :( We had booked accommodations overnite at the park, so that we could continue exploring the area the next day on our way to Hilo, ...
