... the big island; they call it "old Hawai'i" because it's relatively untouched. It's technically privately owned, and you can only venture down the limited public access road by ATV or horse back. We're thinking of doing one of those tours another weekend! There are a few great pictures that *almost* do the valley justice. It's such a stunning sight! Unfortunately, my swelling and allergic reaction started to spread to my wrists, waist and legs. So we ...
... on the Island of Hawai'i from Belgium to find that he doesn't really have anyone to preach to because they all live up the mountain and can't be bothered making the trip down for an hour of being told how retched they are, so, in typical zealot style, he dismantles the beach church, salvages what he can, loads it on donkeys and transports it up the mountain 3 miles (which must have been more like my measurements of 3 miles = 30 miles) and sets about rebuilding it. We stopped once, as it was enough and drive to the end of the road. The famous sign "road closed" on lava crossing the road is not available already for ...
... We stopped at Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation on the way down the mountain, and were lucky enough to stumble into a free tour of their coffee bean farming, milling and roasting operation. The area is perfect for coffee farming. Kona is shielded from trade winds by the three mountains surrounding it, producing warm, moist air off the ocean and causing a thick, foggy cloud forest up on Mt. Hualalai for 9 months of the year. This is dry season so we had ...
