We slept a little later this morning, heading to Lahaina at 8:30 for our trilogy tour to Lanai. Wandered around Banyan square and geocached while we waited for departure. The ride over was smooth. Flying fish but no dolphins. We went straight to the beach and started snorkeling. The surf was up so it was kinda tough. After snorkeling, we sat on the beach for a while. ...
... we drove up 10 000 feet to the summit to see the grandeur of the crater. Often we watched the sunset from the bar of one of the swank resort hotels that dot the shoreline. There are many very accessible snorkelling spots just off the beaches and we also took a boat ride out to Molikini, the exposed crater of an under sea volcano, and saw a variety of reef fish.
It's been a great holiday especially while Al & Lib and Jen & Matt shared it with ...
... Banyan tree, sipping MaiTais in the Lahaina fish co, watching the sun go down, then eating burgers with a longboard lager at cool cats on the Wharf. Mine was probably what the Big Mac was based on - pickles, onions, salad, melted jack cheese and thousand Island dressing. Tasted a lot like it!! Back to Haiku to watch breaking bad and sleep. We'll try again for surfing tomorrow ...
... called Lahaina which is supposed to be the biggest place on this side of the island.
In the mid 1800's, Lahaina was the capital of Hawaii and on busy days over 500 whailing ships could be seen anchored off shore. With the advent of electricity, whaling became a dying industry and sugar became the main Industry on the Island. After some time the capital was shifted and the islands economy dropped off somewhat.

... and into small pools below, surrounded by lush, green plants as usual. Looking off the other side of the bridge we saw yet another waterfall flowing into another pool. On the other end of the bridge, we walked into a bamboo forest! It was really neat but weird to suddenly be surrounded by incredible tall and dense shoots of bamboo! It felt like we were in China. We walked around in the bamboo for a while, then turned around and hiked back to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Koa Lagoon Kihei
We loved our many stays at the KOA Lagoon
We have stayed at the KOA Lagoon many times, the last in April of 2005, and can say without a doubt this is the best deal. Clean rooms, beautiful yards, they keep up everything at this Condo, rates are just what we want to pay. Very nice personnel. Great view of the ocean, beautiful lanai's to eat on, just a wonderful home away from home. Enjoy!! Senior Citizens from Adrian, Michigan.
This was truly a wonderful surprise. What a great and beautiful condo on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Our unit was huge and even provided us with a telescope to gaze at the stars on our own lanai overlooking the most beautiful ocean in the world. Our unit was newly updated and I think we were the first people to use the new toaster. What a special treat (after being in Hawaii for 7 days already) to find a new washer/dryer right in our unit. The bedroom was large and the kitchen was huge, clean and had all updated appliances. We had a beautiful living room and a dining room. The value was unbelievable and Linda (who runs this condo) was very nice and helpful. We did so much on the island, thanks to a concierge service they recommend and please ask for RW as this man knows EVERYTHING about the island. We could have stayed across the street at another condo for $20 a night less but opted for pay more for staying on the ocean. This is what Hawaii is all about. We were 10 steps from the water. WOW - WOW - WOW. We'll be back.
A beautiful and relaxing vacation
We stayed at the Koa Lagoon condo (rm 303) in May of 2005 for our honeymoon. Even after staying in a resort on Oahu for the first half of our trip we were really blown away by the comfort and coziness that the Koa Lagoon had to offer, especially considering the amazing price. Everything was clean and neat and the views were amazing. We spent many afternoons just lounging on the balcony enjoying the amazing landscapes. We are already looking forward to our next trip and know we will be spending our stay in Maui at the Koa Lagoon.
Very Good Condo in Kihei
We rented unit 507 (2-BDR, 2BTH) and it was very nice. Clean and with new appliances. This is not an upper-end resort by any means, but it got the job done with no problems at all. All units face ocean. Complex is on the beach, not across the street like some.
The beach outside is not a good swimming beach, but its nice for walks. Swimming beaches are close. There's a pool but no jacuzzi.
Shops and restaurants are about a half-mile down the main road.
We Love The Koa
The Koa is our place of choice. We stay 3 weeks when the kids get out of school. The price is right and it's very cozy like home. Linda is very kind and is always there when we need something. We love to walk the beach and drink our morning coffee on our privite lani. Mahalo Linda
Stayed here May 2004..The 2 bedroom 2bath condo was wonderful...had everything we could possibly need right there, with a great price. The beach was a bit rocky, but it didn't bother us. Plenty of restaurants and shops within short driving distance. Quieter area than Kaanapali or Lahaina which was what we wanted. We will be back!
Stayed April 2004. FANTASTIC views. All units are ocean front view. We rented 1 bedroom 1 bath unit. Very reasonably priced. Close to shopping, airports, nice central location to all.
Our unit at Koa Lagoon was beautifully decorated and had all the amenities. Large lanai and great view. Close to beaches and shopping but not walking distance. We enjoyed our 2-week stay very much.
Been to Koa Lagoon many times...always loved it. Great place to unwind and watch the sunsets. We were there Oct 2001 when the nation was is such turmoil and shock, and our feeling of peace was restored. The nunits are always well furnished and comfortable. We'll be back again and again.
We have been staying at this resort for quite a few years. Besides a quite location close to all. Units are great, clean nicely appointed.
