It's my birthday 28 today :) Woke up to birthdays greetings and text messages off my Trekkie friends :) what an epic place to wake up on your birthday :) Another early start as we have a long journey ahead of us to Lake Tahoe and because of wild fires we have had to revise the route so we have had to go the long way round passing Yosemite which is our next port of call after Lake Tahoe, so initially going back on ...

... it. We were unhappy with the beer smell in the room as we were going to be in the room for the best part of 48 hours.

The first part of the trip followed the Truckee river. We have driven along this part of the route as well as rafting along the Truckee for part of it, so it was good to see the valley from a different perspective. The river paints a green ribbon through a rather parched valley with the Sierra Nevada Mountains towering above on both sides. We trundled ...

... on the road. The freezer will be full. Canada's border crossing regulations frustrate me: no beef, two bottles of wine or a large bottle of liquor, or 24 cans of beer per person. Really! Trip to duty free store after crossing! Then we cross into AK and US customs are just as onerous. We've been told to pack as much food as we can since it is so expensive. Provisioning canned goods and non perishables. The cats have up to date papers and the passports are ...
