Historical Traveler Reviews Kentia Apartments Side

          Great time had by all

Just got back from a fab fortnight at kentia. Myself, my husband and 3 children (12,9+3) thouroghly enjoyed our 2 weeks there. the apartments were clean, spacious and well maintained. the maid service was excellent as were the hotel staff. The kids all made a lot of good friends and the staff were great with them.

There was only 1 slight problem, if you don't like cats (like my husband) this is not the place for you. Side is crawling with them.

The town itself is lovely with many shops and restaurants, unfortunately with it being a mainly german resort many of the people there don't speak a lot of english, but having said that they go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

Recommended restaurants are Mehmets(in the ruins), Soundwaves, The 3 Lions (sunday lunch). Iwould not recommend Chili's Mexican restaurant, the service was great but the food was appalling. If you are expecting a cheap turkish holiday here you'll be disappointed, Side is more expensive than other parts of Turkey.

While you're here try booking some day trips from the tour shops in town. Really reasonably priced and a lot cheaper than what you would pay when booking through your tour reps.

We would definately go back again.

We went to Kentia at the end of July 2004. Lovely place, very clean. The staff are very hard working and very friendly, couldnt do enough for you. The food was very good and Friday night the Turkish evening was very entertaining, which finished with everyone(who wanted to ) jumping in the pool. There was a couple of things that let Kentia down, not a lot for the teenagers to do, and a lack of general entertainment. The big Issue was the Air Con or should i say lack of, this will put people off going a second time, so come on guys sort it out !!

          Very enjoyable holiday spent here

Lovely apartments, furnished to a good standard, maid service very good, excellent food in the restaurant. Air conditioning centrally controlled & would have been slightly better if own ownership allowed.

Only down side on apts were that they were a taxi ride away from Side Town beach & all the main nightlife ie restaurants, shops. Adds cost on to the overall price of the holiday. Taxi ride 5 million into town & 7/8 million back if before 12pm, after then goes up another 2/3 million.

Side Town beach unspoilt by tourism & by far the best beach.

          Excellent Accommodation

We have just returned from a two week vacation in the Kentia Apartments. This our second visit to Turkey and the accommodation was superb. The apartment was very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and were quick to interpret and act on our behalf when we had a problem with a local tour company who let us down. The a/c wasn't best and the shower wasn't warmest at times but this is common as the water is heated in tanks on the roof and can run cool when there is a big demand! The pool area was quiet and the food in the restaurant was good. Side is only a short walk away and is easy to get to by dolmus which runs every 10 mins. Well worth a visit!

          Loved By Me!

This Year we went to Kentia Apartments on 10th August for 2 weeks. It wasn't our first time in Kentia. Inrfact it was our 5th, we love it so much. We know everyone there. We know all the barmen, cleaners, receptionists, taxi drivers and even the people that work in the shops down the road. When you go somewhere on holiday for the first time your scared incase the apartments or surroundings aren't up to standards, well, Kentia Apartments are definately 1st Class! And those people who write in and say that Kentia Is Rubbish! Well i'd love to see were you usually go on holiday! Rock on Kadiar And Choskun (Barmen in Kentia) Love You xXx

          Historic old town

Side is a big, busy resort with amazing historic ruins, lovely beaches , excellent hospitality and food.

Kentia Apartments are of a high quality and are well staffed. Unfortunately their contract with the tour operator seems not to allow an efficient use of the air conditioning system. The staff blamed the operator and the operator (Thomas Cook) blamed the management. Either way the a/c was not in any way effective. The brochure descriptions are misleading in this.

Turkey is facinating . Many unique and interesting experiences to be had. We had a great holiday.

What the brochure does not tell you

The Kentia apartments are fairly good, but I agree with other reviews, the management is far from helpful.

Lack of sunbeds is a great problem at this complex and one is forced to get up before 6 am if one wants a sunbed. So called air conditioning is a joke. AC is centrally controlled and is only turned on from 5 pm to 11 pm. It is not what one would expect and the temperature in the apartment was often 30 deg. C.

The noise level around the pool is very high and staff do not seem to worry if some guests do not follow the pool rules. eg diving into the fairly shallow pool and jumping into the pool from the bridge. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday then Kentia is not where you should go. The surrounding area has very little to offer and you are more less forced to taxi to Side if you want to go out. To go to the beach - you again need to go by Taxi. I would not go back to this resort.

          Loved The Kentia

My husband and myself have just stayed at The Kentia. We found they were really lovely appartments and the presentation of the the whole place was first class. They are not near to the main part of Side but it's not to long a walk to the beach and the taxis outside the appartments were all very reasonable.

If I had any quibbles about The Kentia it would be that the air con was not very good at all and it would have been nice to have had an elec. kettle

and perhaps a can opener and bottle opener in with the utencils. Also you really do have to get up in the early hours to claim a sun bed around the main pool. We found a couple of nice sunbeds in a quiter part of the beautiful gardens away from all the noise of the pool and right by the indoor pool that no one else was using so we were very happy just there.

If you want somewhere away from all the hub-bub The Kentia is perfect but still not to far away to get to everywhere if you want to.

          Great holiday

this was our first visit to turkey, and we had a great time all the staff were always very friendly and happy to help with any problems you may have, the apartments were cleaned to a very high standard, the maid was in everyday and would leave rose petals on the beds. My family usually holidays in the states, but this year decided to take a break nearer home and i can honestly say it was 1 of the best holidays i ever had, i enjoyed it so much i plan to go again this year, so if your thinking of staying at this hotel go for it you will have a great time, just as we did

          Good hotel-bad management

these are good apartments, four star with usual facilities, good views clean spacious rooms. however the managemnet of the complex was very dissapointing. throughout my seven night stay both the reasonably sized swimming pools were without heating. we were told there was a problem with the pools and it would be fixed however they were still cold the day we left. as well as putting up with the cold pools all the residents had to have showers which were only heated occasionally at random times. lastly the heating in the rooms was never working.

several complaints later i was discretely informed by one of the workers that the management usually failed to provide heating during the off peak season as to save money due to the low level of residents.

this in my opinion is very poor management as the facilities provided must be there for all customers not just the ones staying in summer as we all pay roughly the same prices. i also spoke to the owner of this property and was given no apology whatsoever. turkey itself is a great place to visit but i will not be visiting kentia ever again

While the theartre has never been used as an arena for gladiators we had a couple rioaming around for photos. Anna took them on!!

We also came across a group of bikers on a tour of Turkey on BMWs who will apparently be following our itinerary for the next few days. We di come across them all day at each stop.

... before Konya. Getting closer the mountains became hills and suddenly a vast flat steppe was laid out before us and in the centre the city of Konya sprang forth and spilled out its 1.3 million inhabitants. Still it it just a pimple compared to the size of the plain which stretches 100's of kilometers. We arrived at our hotel around 7pm and stayed put not even venturing out for food. The weariness of the road is ...

We stayed last night outside Antalya near to the airport. It's a district of big monstrosities of hotels each trying to outdo the other in gaudyness. The picture is the view from our hotel room of the next hotel along. It's design is that of the Chrysler building in New York, which has a beautiful elegant tower, but they couldn't just copy it. This hotel has four of ...

It's raining, but at least the rain's warm! Before it started we walked around a bit and realised that the hotel isn't in Antalya at all, it's on the coast where the road turns inland to go over the mountains to Cappadocia, a place called Alara and in fact is over half way to Alanya, which is where we stayed when we first came to Turkey some 40 years ago. I think it's changed a ...
