Wednesday morning we arrived in Sitka. It was an early start as our tour started at 7:05am. This time, we had to tender to get to shore. Ashore we were doing the birds, bears and barnicles tour. We started off with the birds as we went to the raptor center where they treat injured birds and if possible, return them to the wild. They also have a number of permanent residents who would not be able to survive in the wild. We saw a number if ...

... little after, by then Johnathon and Tyler were with us too. It was such a leisurely day of wading in when you felt like fishing, our snacking on our big lunch packs with awesome chicken sandwiches, butternut squash soup, chocolate peanut butter cooks and plenty more snacks and water. It was almost 9 by now, and returned to camp. Finally found a radio station for a little entertainment; then off to ...

Sitka has a fair amount of historical things to see. They have the Sheldon Jackson Museum that probably has one of the most complete collections of Alaskan native artifacts in Alaska.

Right next to it is the Sitka National Historical Park which is the site of the 1804 battle between the Tlingit warriors and Sitka to Wrangell ...

Great day on the water with Captain Kent from Secret Sitka. Met our captain and charter boat at 8AM in Sitka's harbor. Signed our waivers, got quick instructions on how to find the life jackets in an emergency, and were clearly informed that in case of seasickness, "Chum goes overboard!" Another beautiful day for six hours of seeking whales, otters, sea lions, and maybe a bear. Our first sighting came quickly -- otters, a ...
