... soaring eagles. We went for a walk through town, where a passing person directed our focus to the top of St Michaels Church spire to see 2 Bald Eagles sitting on the cross. Continuing on we walked up the stairs to Castle Hill and back down to the Information Centre where they had free wi-fi. Gee it felt good to catch up with what was happening at home.

Entered Sitka at 6:00 am. After breakfast, we tendered in since there were no cruise ship docks. Very efficient and orderly. I have no complaints with HAL so far. First thing, we hiked to the RaptorCenter, where they nurse injured birds of prey back to health. Then we hiked through the magnificent rain forest and the Sitka Historical Park. Addendum: I would have to agree with Gushing Gert that Ludwig’s Bistro is the best restaurant in town—and by now we have eaten at most of them. Denny and I sure hated to leave the Cascade Inn this morning. Our balcony overlooked Sitka Sound which led directly to the Pacific Ocean. We were able to sleep with our sliding door open all night and listen to the crashing waves on the rocks as the tide came in and out. Mount Edgecumbe filled our view as well. This dormant volcano last erupted about 2200 B.C. and is the dominant landmark in Sitka.
