... a video on the history of the place and the minting process; from mining of the ore to finished product. Kutna Hora once had the deepest mines in Europe - 1,500 metres below ground I think our guide said - and the silver they produced made the city the second wealthiest in Bohemia after Prague. It's also the reason that the local church is dedicated to St Barbara, the patron saint of miners - there's even a statue of one of them prominently displayed in the centre of the nave ...

The castle was a collection of many palaces decorated and designed by several different architects. We visited an amphitheatre where if you stood in the centre and spoke it sounded like a speaker reverberating back a you. ... us because it is so much easier, don't have to worry about being quiet and waking up other people. By the one we got organized we did not want to go out, just get some water and go to bed. The currency in Czech is very different, for every 1 euro you get about 24 crowns. So 500 crowns is only 20 euros, we had a difficult time figuring out about what we were spending and what the conversion was. Thursday morning we woke up and went to get breakfast in the the second building but ...
