... was the small market square where a pleasant continental style cafe served typical coffee, beer and sandwiches. It was not the menu or the rather nice surroundings which pleased me so much, it was the friendliness, charm and manner of the staff and other three or four customers. For once I did not feel like a tourist but as a visitor or traveller passing the time of day in another country where sights, sounds and taste are enjoyably different. Everything ...

... El Ray as we drove up to the volcanic summit of the island called El Teide. It was a pretty fun road full of switchbacks that took us through every conceivable landscape from rainforest to snow to pine trees to mists so thick you couldn't see ten feet down the road. Wednesday found us going for a pirate ship ride from Las Americas to Los Gigantes, the huge cliffs on the western side of the island that rise straight up 600 meters from the sea. Back at the flat we have a salad supper eating and drinking all left overs before adjourning to the bar to say farewell to Tony and Vernon. They go by 22.30 as they have an early start we play 3 games of pool, I'm not good, before ...

    North Island Trip

A travel blog entry by valfinucane on Jan 05, 2014

Another sunny day and we leave by at 10.00 to tour the very different rugged north of the island. We drive across to Hermigua but do not stop in the town but at the coastal miradors and arrive in the pretty cobbled town of Agula. It's not sunny here until 23rd February as the town is dwarfed by cliffs that hide the sun until then. We lunch in old school before continuing the very scenic drive to Vallehermoso. We take an out of town walk to the reservoir with great views of the ...
