... returning to the van, Dan notices a leak underneath. We're both down on the ground checking it out when a young man comes along and asks if we're having a problem. He turns out to be a handyman extraordinaire, plumber, electrician, etc. We mention our broken plumbing and he says, "Follow me." One hour later he has fixed the tap and the leak and restored our faith in the goodness of human nature.
... We expected to find lovely campsites on or near the beaches like Oregon & California & imagined sitting in the sun a lot more than we did!! Surprise, surprise it rains in the Sunshine State!! We were disappointed to find very few State Parks with camping & there was no chance of getting in because they book up 11 months ahead! Any Parks we did visit had a $6 day use fee which we found annoying when we only wanted to stop for lunch or quick walk & ...
... thunderstorms and lightning. This morning, in between thunderstorms, we went out for a 3 mile walk through the slash pine forest, white sand dunes and along the beach. See photos. We returned just in time before another thunderstorm which featured close lightning, momentary loss of power (thank you surge protector) and torrential downpour. After a grueling five days of driving, it was time to find a nice campground and hang out for a few days. My plan was to stay at the state park on the beach near Destin. But the polar vortex spoiled things, so I found an RV park near Pensacola instead.
